My work depicts the evolution of feminism and is meant to ‘redefine’ the modern woman. The aspect of nudity, aesthetically speaking is an expression of the beauty of this new definition and its direction.
The outward beauty as well as the beauty of spirit! My work is 2-dimensional and primarily oil on wood. I have been drawn to wood because it seems to express a certain ‘rawness’, which I interpret as assertiveness. The women I paint are the ‘new millennium madonnas’, women who own their own bodies, who break the rules and who consider themselves sensual yet strong and fearless.
I use tattoos as art within art. Tattoos, which are often still viewed by certain societies as unacceptable for the ‘pure and clean’ woman, are also expressive of the modern woman’s empowerment yet ironically, viewed by some as rebellious. My style is conceptual realism with a hint of surrealism.
